What is a Woobie?

What is a Woobie?

In the realm of comfort items and military gear, there's one piece of equipment that has achieved near-legendary status: The Woobie.

History

The Woobie is traditionally an insulated poncho liner or a field expert sleeping bag liner or blanket. These were originally lightweight quilted blankets issued to US Military personnel during The Vietnam War.

These liners offered warmth without the bulk of traditional blankets and were part of the rain gear combo for keeping dry and warm while sleeping outside.

The term "woobie" has since become a term to define a childhood comfort object, lovey or security blanket.

Civilian Popularity

Many soldiers developed a strong emotional attachment to their woobie as it provided a sense of home and comfort in harsh environments. After their service, the woobie was often kept as a cherished memento. This is likely how the term gained popularity as it was passed down to the next generations.

The woobie has become popular among hikers, campers and other outdoor enthusiasts, with some variations of the liner still available for sale.

It is also likely the term became popular from the 1980's film Mr. Mom.

Our Woobies

While our Woobies are not insulated, quilted or military issue, they are sentimental. The name for our store came from my Brother In Law, who carried around a blanket that the family dubbed his woobie. Like Linus from Peanuts, that woobie was his security blanket.

Our woven blankets are soft and durable, ready to take on an adventure, or snuggle up at home.

And just like the military issued ones, ours are machine washable and easy to maintain!
